Africa Gaming Expo 2026 – Day One Recap

The Africa Gaming Expo (AGE) 2026 returned to Lagos for its third edition, bringing together regulators, operators, innovators, and investors from across the globe to shape the future of Africa’s gaming industry. The event opened with a keynote by Peter Mebert, who outlined strategies for scaling African gaming startups globally, emphasizing leadership, innovation, and strategic expansion as key drivers for international success.

A major focus of the conference was regulation and compliance, with panels exploring the complexities of operating across multiple jurisdictions. Discussions highlighted challenges such as regulatory fragmentation, AML requirements, data protection, and the need for stronger collaboration between regulators and operators. Industry leaders called for harmonized frameworks, clearer guidelines, and risk-based regulation to support sustainable growth across African markets.

The expo also spotlighted Africa’s growth potential in gaming and esports, with sessions on gamifying African sports, youth inclusion through esports, and the role of digital infrastructure in unlocking new opportunities. Speakers, including Mark Pace, stressed that effective regulation and global standards are essential to attracting investment and positioning Africa as a competitive force in the global gaming ecosystem.

In addition, the event celebrated diversity and leadership, with a dedicated women’s panel highlighting the growing influence of female leaders in the industry and the importance of mentorship, branding, and collaboration. Representatives of the Lagos State Government, speaking on behalf of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed Lagos’ commitment to building a transparent, innovation-driven gaming environment.

Overall, AGE 2026 delivered a powerful mix of policy dialogue, innovation, and industry collaboration, reinforcing Africa’s position as an emerging hub for gaming, technology, and investment.
